Many websites exist for a variety of scholarships offered throughout California and the US.
Feel free to explore, but know to never pay money for scholarship information or applications.
The information listed below is for mostly local scholarships.

Paying for College
The most important step to obtain money to pay for college is to complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) OR the California Dream Act (if appropriate). If you are unsure which is the one for you, ask your counselor.
The FAFSA and CA Dream Act Applications are now available. Submission deadline TBD
FBHS will host the following events:
Financial Aid Info Night, Thursday December 5th, from 5:30-7pm in the FBHS Library.
Financial Aid Workshop date TBD from 6-8pm in the FBHS Library.

2024-2025 FBHS General Scholarship Information
The entire scholarship packet should be saved as a PDF (one file)- NOT a Google Doc.

Components of this application:
Cover Page (sample) (Please do not put a picture of yourself on your cover letter)
Application Page – FORM must be typed! (Handwritten not accepted.)
Résumé – Must be limited to one page. You should have a current résumé in your advisory portfolio
Essay:
Tips: Read your essay aloud to yourself or someone else, make necessary edits, and then request an English teacher proofread it with you; your final essay should be flawless.
Essay Part 1:
Discuss an accomplishment, event, or realization that sparked a period of personal growth and a new understanding of yourself or others.
AND
Essay Part 2:
In addition to the above, on a separate page, write a paragraph discussing what you see yourself doing immediately after high school as well as your long-term goals.
Two letters of Recommendation
The process to request a letter:
1-2 weeks before you need it, ask (don’t assume!) the your intended letter write to please write a letter for you. If they say yes, provide them with your completed Brag Sheets to assist them in discussing how wonderful you are.You need 2 letters (Letters are limited to one page each):
1- from a high school teacher
1- from another adult (not family)
Senior Brag Sheet (English) or Senior Brag Sheet (Spanish): You fill this out about yourself.
Make a copy, complete, then give to the person you are asking to write a letter for you.Family Brag Sheet (English) or Family Brag Sheet (Spanish): Your family member fills this out about you.
Make a copy, complete, then give to people you will be asking for letters of recommendation.Do not include Brag Sheets in scholarship applications. The role of the Brag Sheet is to help the letter writer know more about you.
Transcript: Please send Emily an email (etupper@fbusd.us) requesting a PDF copy of your transcript. If you wait until after 1/9/2025 the Fall 2024 semester grades will be posted on the transcript.

Equitable Excellence
Applicants to the Equitable Excellence® Scholarship Program Scholarship Program must:
Be current high school seniors in one of the 50 U.S. states, District of Columbia or Puerto Rico who plan to enroll full-time in an accredited two-or four-year college or university in the United States for the entire upcoming academic year.
Demonstrate ambition and self-drive to be a force for good in school, community or work activities
Be willing to provide a release to publicize their identities and information about their achievements along with photographs for use in program promotion and information.
Have a 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale
Your data will be shared with Scholarship America’s research partner. Your continued access and use of this website will amount to acceptance of these terms.

Sonoma State University Scholarship Program
To be eligible, applicant must:
Any degree-seeking student, new or continuing, planning to attend the upcoming year. Formal admission acceptance is not required at the time of application.
Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA
Full-time enrollment (verified at the time of disbursement)

California Association of Winegrape Growers Foundation
The California Association of Winegrape Growers Foundation is offering a minimum of six scholarships in 2025 to graduating high school seniors. Students may study the subject of their choice.
To be eligible:
Applicants must be a high school senior graduating in 2025
Only children with a parent or legal guardian employed by a California vineyard during the 2024-2025 Winegrape growing season are eligible to apply.
Children whose parent or guardian is a California Winegrape grower may request a waiver from this eligibility requirement based upon financial need.

Mendocino Coast Historical Society
Denise S Stenberg Memorial
Mendocino Coast high school seniors or students at the coast branch of Mendocino Community College who are taking history classes or have an interest in pursuing history as an educational goal.
Requirements:
Have a GPA of at least 3.0 and evidence an interest in history as an academic subject.
Proof of enrollment in classes will be required prior to release of scholarship funds.
For high school students, evidence of an interest in history (local or global) can be determined from the student’s application essay as well as supporting testimony from a school teacher or counselor.
Evidence of an interest in history can also be demonstrated by volunteering 10 hours with the Fort Bragg-Mendocino Coast Historical Society, serving as a docent at the Guest House Museum in Fort Bragg, assisting with maintenance of the Society’s archives, as well as other projects.

Italian Catholic Federation
To be eligible, applicant must:
Minimum 3.2 GPA, be Roman Catholic and of Italian descent OR if either Roman Catholic parent, guardian or grandparent is a member of the Italian Catholic Federation, the student must be Roman Catholic, but need not be of Italian descent.

Jack & Phyllis Perkins Fort Bragg Football Scholarship
This scholarship is for a student who has played football in high school.
Student is to be in good standing who plans to continue their education to either junior college, trade school or four-year schooling.
The student is to write a short essay about what Fort Bragg Football means to them.
