Feel free to explore, but know to never pay money for scholarship information or applications.
The information listed below is for mostly local scholarships.

Paying for College
The most important step to obtain money to pay for college is to complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) OR the California Dream Act (if appropriate). If you are unsure which is the one for you, ask your counselor.
The FAFSA and CA Dream Act Applications are now available. Submission deadline:

Cover Page (sample) (Please do not put a picture of yourself on your cover letter)

Résumé – Must be limited to one page. You should have a current résumé in your advisory portfolio
Essay:
Tips: Read your essay aloud to yourself or someone else, make necessary edits, and then request an English teacher proofread it with you; your final essay should be flawless.
Essay Part 1:
Discuss an accomplishment, event, or realization that sparked a period of personal growth and a new understanding of yourself or others.
AND
Essay Part 2:
In addition to the above, on a separate page, write a paragraph discussing what you see yourself doing immediately after high school as well as your long-term goals.
Two letters of Recommendation
The process to request a letter:
1-2 weeks before you need it, ask (don’t assume!) the your intended letter write to please write a letter for you. If they say yes, provide them with your completed Brag Sheets to assist them in discussing how wonderful you are.You need 2 letters (Letters are limited to one page each):
1- from a high school teacher
1- from another adult (not family)
Senior Brag Sheet (English) or Senior Brag Sheet (Spanish): You fill this out about yourself.
Make a copy, complete, then give to the person you are asking to write a letter for you.Family Brag Sheet (English) or Family Brag Sheet (Spanish): Your family member fills this out about you.
Make a copy, complete, then give to people you will be asking for letters of recommendation.Do not include Brag Sheets in scholarship applications. The role of the Brag Sheet is to help the letter writer know more about you.
Transcript: Please send Emily an email (etupper@fbusd.us) requesting a PDF copy of your transcript. If you wait until after 1/9/2025 the Fall 2024 semester grades will be posted on the transcript.

Fort Bragg Fireladies
To be eligible, the applicant must have a parent or other close family member who is presently serving or has served in the Fort Bragg Fire Department.
To apply:
Replace the cover page on your FBHS General Scholarship Application with one titled Fort Bragg Fireladies Scholarship

Redwood Coast K-16 Educational Collaborative
To be eligible for:
Must be a member of the 2025 graduating class of a MENDOCINO or LAKE county high school
Plan to attend, and have applied to, an accredited institution of higher education (university/college/community college) and enter that institution by fall semester 2025
Be in good standing with their high school in terms of character, citizenship, and academics
Must be eligible for TRIO programs, or be eligible to receive Pell Grant, or be able to demonstrate financial need
Must provide verification of FAFSA/CADAA completion

Alyson Sanchezllanes Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship is in memory of a loving student from FBHS
To be eligible for:
Open to all students
Someone who is an agent of positive change in our community.
Someone who is passionate, positive, and interested in improving the lives of others.
Special consideration will be given to students who intend on staying in our community or returning after secondary school, nontraditional students, students interested in the arts, and students who are pursuing education to help others (teaching, healthcare, emergency services, etc.).

Mendocino Coast Recreation & Park District Scholarship
Who May Apply:
Applicants must be a high school senior graduating in 2025.
Students currently enrolled in college are not eligible.
Only children who have participated in a program or multiple programs at the Mendocino Coast Recreation & Park District are eligible to apply.
Children from Gualala to Westport who attend a public school, a private school, or home school within the districts from Gualala to Westport (MCRPD area map guidelines) and are high school seniors may apply.
The Selection Process:
The Mendocino Coast Recreation & Park District will award the scholarships. Selection is based upon the following five criteria:
1) Financial need
2) Demonstrated scholastic ability
3) Community involvement and leadership in MCRPD programs and participation
Sports participation with the understanding that these activities build character and leadership skills, teach strategic and analytical thinking, and promote goal setting and teamwork.
4) Your determination to succeed.
5) a two part 500-word essay.
To qualify for the scholarships, students must:
Applicants must be a high school senior graduating in 2025. Students currently enrolled in college are not eligible.
Must have participated in an MCRPD program as a youth or teen
Must have a GPA of 3.00 or better
Must be a graduating high school senior in 2025
Timely completion of the application process
Attending a junior college, 4-year college, or university in the Fall of 2025. Gap year students will not be considered.
Special consideration to students interested in our industry and community (including, but not limited to sports management, sports psychology, coaching, recreation management, physical education, event coordination, exercise science.

John Mitchell Memorial Rodeo Scholarship
This is scholarship is for a student that must compete or has competed in High School Rodeo, Juniors Rodeo, amateur or open rodeo

Community First Credit Union Arlene Colombini Scholarship
To be eligible for:
Applicants must have a minimum 3.0 GPA
Plans to attend a 2 or 4-year college in the fall immediately following graduation.
Requirements:
Completed Community First Credit Union Scholarship application form
Personal Statement describing post-college plans and goals, as they pertain to the applicant’s field of study, in 350 words or less.
One letter of reference from a teacher.
Resume with academic achievements, extracurricular activities, community service, and work experience.
Provide a certified high school transcript for grades 9-12.

Students who have extraordinary circumstances in their lives as well as students who may not have the chance to attend college without financial assistance are encouraged to apply. The committee is looking for students who understand and exemplify the meaning of “hard work.”
Students who are chosen as recipients of the Splawn Scholarship have a chance to re-apply once yearly while in college. Renewals take place in the fall each year.

Mendocino Coast Safe Space Project
“Roy Mora Memorial Scholarship”
The Mendocino Coast Safe Space Project (MCSSP) is a grassroots nonprofit dedicated to
creating safe and inclusive environments for LGBTQIA2S+ communities, students, and allies. We believe LGBTQIA2S+ youth are vital to society.
For applicants:
We invite you to share your story and your aspirations for life after high school. You may submit your responses through video recording, audio recording, art piece, written essay or other alternative means. While there is a written component to this application, please know you can submit it via video or audio if writing is not your preferred style. We strive to accommodate all types of learners and understand that traditional applications do not meet everyone’s strengths. If you prefer that your identity be kept confidential and shared only with the MCSSP scholarship committee, please indicate this in your submission, and your privacy will be respected.

Must be completing school this school year 24/25 (includes GED, CHSPE, Graduating Senior or completing TLC).

This scholarship is for a student who has played football in high school.

For a student who will be pursuing further education in music, and has an interest in Jazz.

Paul Bunyan Days Association
The Paul Bunyan Days Association has proudly prompted forestry and ecology in Fort Bragg since 1939.
This scholarship for High School seniors intending to study Forestry or related field, or anyone currently enrolled in such courses.
